Important Note for Maritime Crew visa or Special Purpose visa:

If you hold a Maritime Crew visa or a Special Purpose visa and receive an ETA, both visas will be active at the same time, allowing you to enter Australia on both. You can remain in the country for the longer duration of the two, but if that period exceeds three months, the ETA will expire while you continue your stay under the other visa.

Important Note for Any other substantive visa:

For holders of any other substantive visa along with an ETA, entry into Australia will be granted on the substantive visa rather than the ETA. The ETA will become active once the other visa expires, though its three-month stay period starts upon arrival, so it’s important to check that your substantive visa is valid for more than three months if you plan to stay longer

Stay:

With this visa you can travel to Australia as much as you want in a 12 month timespan. But, you shouldn’t exceeded more than 3 months each time you enter Australia.

Electronic Travel Authority and is it for you?

This is a temporary visa designed to let you stay temporarily in Australia if you want  to visit Australia temporarily and you are outside of Australia. If you reasons include activities such as tourism, like a holiday of significance importance to your family living in Australia or visting family who is in Australia on work, or study purpose, or even travel independly in Australia, or a cruise, or even as a business visitor. But, you must also have an eligible passport given below to qualify for Visitor visa (subclass 601)

Since, you can travel to Australia on business purpose with Visitor visa (subclass 601)  Electronic Travel Authority, activities such as, to explore employment opportunities, negotiate or review contracts, participate in official government visits, and attend conferences, trade fairs, or seminars are allowed. But,you cannot receive payment for your participation.

AND,

you are not permitted to work for or provide services to an Australian-based business, nor can you sell goods or services directly to the public. 

AND,

You cannot engage in in any studies or training for more than 3 months.

Note: If you hold both an Australian Passport and ETA eligible passport then you have an automatic right of entry entry, and do not need any kind of visa to enter Australia

As the name suggest you must consider your intention of coming to Australia. If you are looking temporarily visit Australia, this is for you. If you looking do any other activities like study or work, this might not be for you.

You must be free from tuberculosis when you travel to and enter Australia. Another mandatory factor is the health insurance where each traveller must have proper health insurance.

Evidence you can provide:

— You must provide proof of purchase for a valid health insurance policy from an Australian-registered insurer. Alternatively, if your country has a reciprocal healthcare agreement with Australia, that may also meet the requirement. Check the Australian Immigration website to confirm whether your country qualifies.

Note: If you are planning to enter health care or hospital environments, you need to apply for Visitor visa (subclass 600)

Note:  If you had previously failed to meet the health requirement you must apply for the Visitor (subclass 600) visa.

The purpose of this is to provide evidence of your good character and to confirm you have no outstanding legal issues or pending court proceedings in your country of residence, or you have no criminal record back home.

Evidence you can provide: A police report from your home country showing that you have no criminal record or convictions where the total sentence does not exceed 12 months.

Note: If you have a criminal conviction, you should apply for a Visitor visa (subclass 600) with supporting evidence, as providing incorrect information for an ETA could lead to its cancellation, even after visa is granted

You shouldn’t have any remaining debts with Australian government, you must have cleared it or have some kind of arrangement proof to pay it back
